Rolex Miami OCR - International Racing Schedule Highlighted by Late-January Regatta |
MIAMI, FL. USA-(7-1-2004) Sailors have just under two weeks to complete early on-line registration for the 2004 Rolex Miami OCR, which this year moves back one day for a Tuesday through Friday race schedule. To be held January 27-30, the regatta is in its 15th year and hosts racing in the classes chosen for the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Regattas. Early online registration closes January 19, with onsite registration taking place Monday, January 26.
The global importance of this event, the only International Sailing Federation (ISAF) grade-one ranking event in the U.S. for Olympic and Paralympic classes, is reflected in a traditionally high attendance by both U.S. and foreign Olympic hopefuls. Last year, 526 athletes represented 34 countries, with more than half of the 328 boats comprising the foreign entries. If past records are an indication, this year’s roster will include Olympic medallists, world champions and America’s Cup veterans. Adding an exciting twist will be athletes already chosen for the 2004 Olympic Regatta in Athens alongside others who are still working toward being their country’s representative.
The Rolex Miami OCR will feature six racing circles on Biscayne Bay. Regatta Headquarters will be located at the US Sailing Center in Coconut Grove. Other Hosts for the event are the Coral Reef, Key Biscayne and Miami Yacht Clubs; the Coconut Grove Sailing Club; and Shake-A-Leg Miami.
