PALAMOS, SPAIN-(29-12-2004) The strong North wind, Tramuntana today in the Bay of Palamós caused a strong gale and led to the cancellation of racing on the third day of competition.
The regatta official meteo service forecasted strong North wind for the night from 28th to 29th December and the wind has continued blowing during the day.
At 9:00 hrs this morning, the Tramuntana was blowing between 20 - 35 knots with gusts of 40 knots and the Organisation postponed all classes ashore at 9:50 hrs until 14.00 hrs. Around midday, gusts of 40 to 46 knots(72 a 87 km/hour) were registered with very big waves and at 14.00 hrs the day’s racing was officially abandoned.
Both the Principal Race Officer, Ion Echave and the President of Club de Vela Palamós, Xavier Ribera, confirmed that the extreme wind conditions made it impossible to have any sailing today.
