PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(4-4-2004) The dinghy sailing event of the 35th HRH Princess Sofia Trophy will start tomorrow for the 9 participating classes. Around 625 boats representing 50 nations will sail tomorrow in the Bay of Palma.
The warning signal for the first race in all classes is scheduled at 10.55 hours. CN Arenal is the venue of the 470 men and women, Finn and Tornado classes. 470 men French crew Gildas/Le Berre, the leaders of the ISAF Sailing Ranking lists have entered as well as the ranking leaders in 470 women, French sailors Petitjean/Douroux and the top third ranked Spanish crew Via Dufresne-Azón.
61 entries have been registered in the Finn class with the presence of number one sailor, Ben Ainslie from Great Britain. Rafael Trujillo, silver medal at the Finn ISAF World Championships and in 5th position of the ranking list is also competing in the regatta. In the Tornado class, the regatta will be the preparation for the Worlds that will follow in the same Club with Australian crew Bundock/Forbes and Dutch crew Booth/Dercksen as favourite.
Club Maritimo San Antonio de la Playa is the venue of the Europe men and women fleets and the Real Club Náutico de Palma is hosting the Yngling and Dragon classes.
The Lasers have their venue in Calanova with the participation, among others, of Swedish sailor Karl Suneson and Spanish sailor Luis Martinez Doreste.
