PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(3-4-2004) First day of registration and measurement of the 35th HRH Princess Sofia Trophy-Madrid 2012. A total of 625 boats representing 50 nations will start their races on Monday, 5 April.
Nine classes will compete in the Bay of Palma following the cancellation of classes Mistral, 49er and Star. The highest entry is in the Europe class (145), with the participation of Siren Sundby, leader of the ISAF World rankings.
There will be high interest in the Europe women, 470 men and Yngling classes where the Spanish Olympic team for the Athens Olympics will be decided.
Registration and measurement will continue tomorrow with offices closing at 19:00 hours. On 5th April, the start is scheduled at 11:00 hrs. The weather forecast is favourable, with clear skies, mild temperatures and the typical wind of the area, the `Embat`.
The regatta has the support of the city of Madrid as main sponsor within its candidature to organise the 2012 Olympics with Palma as the sailing venue.
