The Spanish crews hold on to good positions in classes Europe Men, 470 women and Tornado

Princess Sofia Trophy - The Spanish crews hold on to good positions in classes Europe Men, 470 women and Tornado
PAKMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(7-4-2004) Three Spanish teams maintain their good positions in the third day of competition of the 35th HRH Princess Sofia Trophy. Manuel Jiménez, in Europe Men, Via Dufresen/Azón in 470 women and Echavarri/Paz in the Tornado class are still among the top places after a complicated day in the different racing areas due to the constant wind shifts with only one race sailed in many classes.

In the Europe men, Spanish sailor Manuel Jiménez is second overall and Christopher Gundersen from Norway becomes the leader of the overall standings. US sailor Meg Gaillard takes the leading position from Siren Sundby in the Europe women standings.

Dufresne/Azon are down to fourth place overall in the 470 women results. Top place is for Russian crew Illienko/Gaponovich and the lead in the 470 men is still for Argentinian crew Conte/De la Fuente.

US crew Lovell/Ogletree are first overall in the Tornado class.

The most outstanding sailor in this edition of the Trophy is British Finn sailor Ben Ainslie with six victories in the six races sailed.

The leaders in the Dragon class are German crew Müller/Hoesch/Gunnar and the top place in the Yngling overall standings is for Wagner/Hoell/Lochbrunner.

The fight for top place in the Laser class is between Swedish sailors Kark Suneson -leader of the overall standings at present- and Daniel Birgmark.
