Hyannis, USA - For once the weather forecast was right when a light offshore gradient wind under a cloudy sky died when the sun came came out on the sixth day of the Laser World Championship. The 7 to 8 knot wind was switching through 30 degrees causing a delay in the start of the first race of the day until it finally settled sufficiently to set a course. |

Hyannis, USA - The last day of the qualifier series at the Laser World Championship belonged to Brazilian Robert Scheidt. The five times world champion won both his heats easily in 18 to 23 knot winds that eased by five knots for the second race. He said “I had a perfect day. In the first race I started in the middle and went five minutes to the left until I could cross the guys on the starboard side. I rounded the top mark in second place behind Mark Howard who I passed on the downwind. After that I just protected my lead.” |

Hyannis, USA - Under sunny skies and in a 12 knot wind 2 more races were completed today in the Laser World Championship off Cape Cod, USA. The fleet is divided in half with each fleet racing two races over a trapezoid course of 6 miles with each race lasting 70 minutes. Sweden’s Karl Suneson had a perfect day winning both races in his group. Suneson had an easy victory in his first race. Behind him Brendan Casey from Australia won a three continent battle between Roope Suomalainen (Finland), Gareth Blackenberg (South Africa) and Paul Goodison (Great Britain). He had to work hard in the second race. Leading at the first mark he was overtaken on the downwind leg by 4 boats but climbed back to second on the next upwind behind Blackenberg. Sunneson overtook Blackenberg on the next downwind to hold his lead until the finish. Casey said “I’m pretty happy with my two races. It was very close racing with most of the place changes taking place downwind. Everyone is going fast!”< |

Hyannis, USA - A strong 18 - 22 knot westerly gradient wind and 4 to 6 foot seas produced exciting sailing and a tough test for the 131-strong fleet on the second of the Laser World Championship at Hyannis on Cape Cod. Again, racing was in two heats with two races scheduled for the day. |

Hyannis, USA - A strong cold front moved through the northeast United States Wednesday bringing cool temperatures and wind up to 50 knots throughout the region. Fortunately, the Laser World Championships hosted by the Hyannis Yacht Club on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, did not begin official racing until Thursday. 131 sailors representing 44 countries were greeted to 20-knot north winds this morning for the first day of competition. |
