Hog`s Breath Race Week 2002 - The 13th Annual Hog`s Breath Race Week concluded |
ARLIE BEACH-(16-8-2002) The series was sailed in predominantly strong winds, providing close racing and lots of action throughout the five days of the regatta.
The passage race around the Islands was held on Wednesday 14th August in strong south easterly winds, keeping the placings tight in each division despite the long distance sailed.
The Australian Sydney 38 Championship was held in conjunction with the Hog’s Breath series. Racing in the competitive One Design fleet was extremely intense, with only seconds separating the finishing yachts in most races. Three boats were tied for first position leading into the final race, until the experienced Lou Abrahams eventually claimed victory on board his yacht Another Challenge.
The presentation for all divisions was held on Thursday evening at the Hog’s Breath Café, Airlie Beach, where jubilant sailors were awarded for their efforts throughout the week.
After a week of competitive sailing, the yachts are heading over to Hamilton Island to gear up for the Hahn Premium Race Week, which begins on Saturday.
