CADIZ, SPAIN-(6-1-2003) Last December, a total of 106 new officers were presented with the credentials that will allow them to be on the different committees involved in running the 2003 ISAF World Sailing Championships, which will be held in the Bay of Cadiz between the 11th and 25th September of this year.
To mark the end of the respective courses, aimed at providing the human resources with the technical skills to be officers in the different race areas in the Worlds, a ceremony was held to present the diplomas in the Regio Room of the Provincial Council of Cadiz, which was presided by the chairman and deputy chairman of the Executive Committee, Rafael Román and Mª Isabel Peinado, accompanied by the deputy chairmen of the Mundo Vela Cadiz Consortium and the Andalusian Sailing Federation (FAV), Felipe Márquez and José María Escribano, and the Worlds’ Director of Competition, Nicolás Mariño.
Over the last two years, international race officers, most of whom are from the Andalusian Sailing Federations, have taught the following courses: International Race Officer, Race Committee Officer, Race Office Officer, Course Setters, Measurers and Results Officer.
These courses, which will continue throughout 2003 to the start of the 2003 ISAF World Sailing Championships, have been organised by Deporte Andaluz and the Mundo Vela consortium, and their main objective has been to ensure that most of the human resources on shore and at sea come from the metropolitan area of the Bay of Cadiz.
