XXXIV HRH Princess Sofia Trophy - Star Class obtaines ISAF Grade 1 status |
PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(24-12-2002) The 34th edition of the 34th Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia has received the status of Grade 1 event for the Star class within the ISAF ranked events (regattas counting for the World ranking).
The criteria of ISAF gives a Grade 1 status only to three Olympic classes regattas per continent.
In such respect, the Organising Committee will apply Star class rule 31.1.3 concerning crew weight limitation.
This Grade 1 for the Star class places the regatta in a important position within the other European events and aims at obtaining the same grading for other Olympic classes of the Trophy.
On the other hand, the entry period started in December and entries are increasing day by day so we expect this edition to reach an important number of top level sailors.
We must outline the entry of British sailor Ben Ainslie, Gold medallist at the 2000 Sydney Games. He is presently sailing in the FINN class and he has become the winner of the 2002 Finn Gold Cup as well as being voted as 2002 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the year.
