PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(16-2-2003) Over 400 boats have entered the 34th Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia-Madrid 2012, when there are still 20 days to go for the entry deadline. No doubt the regatta will have the participation of the world top sailors. Entries have been received from Monica Azon, Yngling World Champion as well as Australian crews Jenny Armstrong and Mark Turnbull, gold medallists at the Sydney Olympics in 470 women and 49er respectively.
Furthermore, British sailor Ben Ainslie, gold medallist at the Sydney Olympics in Laser class, winner of the 2002 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award has also entered the regatta. Ben, Finn Class European and World Champion, will compete in the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in this class. The Dragon class World champion Harm Muller-Spreer will also participate in the event.
The 34th Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia-Madrid 2012 will also have the participation, among many other sailors, of Sydney silver medallists Amelie Lux (Mistral women, Germany), Darren Bundock (Tornado, Australia) and Paul Forester (470 men, USA).
The whole Spanish Pre-Olympic Sailing team has entered the regatta which will be a selection event for the 2004 pre-Olympic national teams.
For the first time, the regatta is divided in two periods to offer the maximum quality to all competitors, the dinghy sailing event will be held from 12 to 18 April and the cruiser event will be held from 24 to 27 April.
The entry deadline is 28 February and the organisers expect the participation of around 800 boats, representing over 40 nations.
