PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(18-4-2003) Swedish Europe Men class sailor Fredrik Svensson has been the absolute winner of the 34th Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofía-Madrid 2012. Svensson has won five out of the ten races sailed in the class.
In this last day of competition, with a last possible warning signal at 15.00 hours, 34 races have been sailed with most classes having raced 2 races. Winds 220-230º, 7-9 knots have been the prevailing weather conditions in all racing areas.
The 49er winners are Spanish crew López-Vázquez/de la Plaza followed by Iker Martínez/Xavier Fernández and Ukranian team Rodion Luka/George Leonchuk in third place.
The lead in the 470 W class is for Australian crew Jenny Armstrong/Belinda Stowell followed by Spanish crew Vía Dufresne/Azón and Therese Torgersson/Vendela Zachrisson from Sweden.
Swedish sailor, Daniel Birgmark, has been the winner of the Laser class followed in second place by British sailor Paul Goodison (winner of the 2002 edition) and Swedish sailor Karl Suneson in third place.
Lee Lai Shan from Hong Kong is the winner in the Mistral Women, followed by Italian sailor Alexandra Sensini and Faustine Merret from France.
In Mistral Men, British Nick Dempsey is first followed by French saoilor Julian Bontemps and Joao Rodrigues from Portugal.
British team Shirley Robertson/Sarah Ayton/Inga Leask have won in the Yngling class. Dorte O. Jensen/Helle Jespersen/ Rachel Kiel from Denmark have been second followed by German team Ulrike Schuemann/Wibke Buell/Winnie Lippert in third place.
The winners of the 470 Men class have been Mathew Belcher/Dan Belcher from Australia followed by Alvaro Marinho/Miguel Nunes from Portugal and French team Benjamin Bonnaud/Romain Bonnaud.
Fredrik Svensson from Sweden has been the winner in the Europa Men class followed by Swedish sailor Oscar Claeson and Joan Salamé from Spain.
The win in Europa Women is for Finnish sailor Sari Multala followed by Carolyn Brouwer from Holland and Norwegian sailor Siren Sundby.
The Finn class world champion, Belgian sailor Sebastien Godefroid wins once again the Princesa Sofía. Second place is for Ben Ainslie from Great Britain and Polish Mateusz Kusznierewicz ends up in third place.
Star class has seen Fredrik Loof/Anders Ekstrom from Sweden as winners, followed by British crew Iain Percy/Steve Mitchell and Philippe Presti/Saliou Jean Philippe from France.
Australian crew Darren Bundock/Glen Ashby are the winners in the Tornado class, followed by British crew Hugo Styles/Adam May and Dutch team Mitch Booth/Herbert Dercksen.
British team Poul Richard Hoj-Jensen/Jeremy Jordan/Claus Hoj-Jensen are the winners of the Dragon class followed by Danish team Peter Warren/Frank Eriksen/Lous Bo Poulsen and British crew Ivan Bradbury/Martin Payne/Kasper Harsberg.
The prize giving ceremony will be held at 20.00 hours at the Palacio de Congresos, Pueblo Español.
The Antonio Moragues Memorial Trophy, prize awarded by the Spanish Sports Press to the best Spanish youth men and women sailor is awarded to Marc Riera (CN Fornells), Mistral Men class and to Marina Alabau, Mistral Women class (Federación Andaluza de Vela).
