Athens 2003 Regatta - Thomas Miller pays a visit to Aghios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre |
AGIOS KOSMAS, ATHENS, GREECE-(22-8-2003) US Ambassador to Athens, Thomas Miller paid a visit today to the Olympic Sailing Centre. The US Ambassador toured Venue facilities and showed great interest in the organisation of the Sailing Sport Event.
In reference to the Venue of the Olympic Sailing Centre, Mr Miller stated: “I am very impressed. The Sailing Venue is indeed a real miracle”.
In reply to questions from Media representatives on security matters in view of the Olympic Games, the US Ambassador said: “I have read the articles on the topic and in my opinion our responsibility is to have a good cooperation. I remember the article on Al Qaida in the New York Times and according to my source it was not true. I think for all of us here, and for our Embassy, it would be better not to worry about all these articles and continue with the cooperation between the US and Greece on security matters, which is very good and I believe will be very good in the future. We will continue cooperating on security with the Government, the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and the Ministry for Public Order”.
Moreover, in response to a question on the rumoured request by the Australians to undertake themselves the protection of the members of their Delegation during the Games, Mr Miller stressed: “Every day I am informed about various publications in the Press, but I don’t think such a request is official. I repeat that what is needed is for all of us to work together”.
