CADIZ, SPAIN-(15-9-2003) The Europe Class have a reserve day today, and the Yngings have a second day of racing. The Mistral M & W and the Star have their first race of two scheduled today.
The Mistral Men tables have been divided into two groups (Blue and Yellow) as so has the Star fleet, which will be the first time they have completed in two groups, conforming to the ISAF rules. This system is applyed when the number of boats is above 80. The Mistral W only have one group in the fleet.
The Star Class has a 83 competitors and the Mistral M 118 and Mistral W 65.
The strong winds which have been blowing up to 26 knots delayed the qualification of the Yngling, Star, and Mistral M W this morning.
The first fleet (yellow group) of the Mistral M left the ramp at 14:15 once the wind dropped to 20 knots. The were 6 OCS: ISR1, JP7, TUR25, CH2 and AUT171.
The Mistral M (Blue group, OCS of SU131) left at 14:24. The Mistral F (no incidents) at 15:10 and the Yngling (OCS of IT14, ESP1 and GR1) at 15:25.
The race comitee signalled the Yankee flag for the Delta area signalling obligatory life jackets.
The Star Class were the only fleet to stay on land as their race for today was cancelled.
Przemek Miarczynski (POL) nº10 in the World Ranking of his class, came first on both of his races today. Julien Bontemps (FRA) in 2nd place numbers 14 in the ISAF Ranking and Alexandre Guyader 3rd place provisionally.
Ivan Pastor and Curro Manchon (SPA) are 14th and 20th respectively and Jorge Maciel (SPA), in 16th.
The first Mistral F has finished today with the victory for Lee Korsitz (ISR) followed by the bronze medallist in Sydney 2000, Barbara Kendall (NZL) and Faustine Merret (FRA) 20th in the World Ranking.
Maria de Andres (SPA) came 11th in the Mistral W beating Blanca Manchon 25th, and Marina Alabau 50th.
The Yngling has finished its first round.
