Through their generous support, international teams and overseas class associations will be able to ship their boats to and from Melbourne at a greatly reduced cost. Sail Melbourne hopes that this will provide a significant boost to entry numbers for its ISAF Grade 1 Olympic & Invited Classes Regatta and two of the World Championships being held on Port Phillip this year, the Flying Dutchman and International 420 classes.

Planning is underway to land the containers in Melbourne early in December so overseas competitors can train in Melbourne or take part in the Sydney International Regatta. Up to 20 containers are expected from ports in Great Britain, Europe, Asia and North America under this sponsorship arrangement. Regatta Manager David Staley will be meeting officials from ISAF Member National Authorities in Cadiz during the World Sailing Championships to promote the opportunity and discuss logistical arrangements.
