ROTA, BAY OF CADIZ, SPAIN - 6PM-(20-9-2003) In the early afternoon, winds turned in direction half the clock and finally left the race courses Alpha and Beta, which are the courses for the 470 Men and Women Fleets.
On the Women’s course, the Race Committee managed to complete one race for both groups, and only one in Group A on the Men’s course.
The Race committee decided to postpone the races till further notice for all groups.
Boats were parked at the slipway for the last few hours, waiting for the signal of the Race Committee to call them back onto the water. Just a few minutes ago this signal has been given in order of importance of the Groups, Men Groups B-C and both Women groups in an attempt to finalize the Qualifiers. All races that will be completed before 21.00 hrs. tonight, will be valid for conclusion of the day.
The current situation:

* 6 races count as a minimum for qualifying races.
470 Men
Group A – 4 races completed – 2 to go
Group B – 3 races completed – 3 to go
Group C – 3 races completed – 3 to go
470 Women
Group A – 5 races completed – 1 to go
Group B – 5 races completed – 1 to go
For tomorrow a reserve day was planned. In addition a 470 party shall take place tonight in the city of Rota. Also Theresa Zabell, winner of Olympic Gold in the 470 Class Women pays a visit to the venue here in Rota.
In the only completed race of the 470 Men, which was race 4 in group A, Gabrio Zandona / Andrea Trani (ITA) have extended their overall lead by 2nd position, looking at Andrea Kosmatopoulos / Kostas Trigonis (GRE) in front of them. The Greek guys have a perfect compensation of their 4-4-10 serie in the first three races.
Ladies will sail their last qualifying race (race 6) . In the current surroundings of the 25th overall ranking, there will be quite some heat in the game, as 25 is the limit for the Gold Fleet.
This morning Greece’s Sofia Bekatorou / Emilia Tsoulfa have retained their lead with another 1st position. Vlada Ilienko / Natalia Gaponovich (RUS) have taken over the 2nd overall rank from Lisa Westerhof / Margriet Mathijsse (NED)
The rankings are calculated now after one discard, which brings results into a new perspective. Christina Bassadone / Katherine Hopson (GBR) take 3rd position and Jenny Armstrong / Belinda Stowell have moved up to a 4th position by winning the race today in their group.
