ROTA, SPAIN-(21-9-2003) Last night the 470 Class party was held at the Feria ground in Rota. The
event was attended by over 100 people who were able to enjoy traditional
dishes such as paella and tortilla. The evening’s entertainment was a
Flamenco show.
Felipe Marquez, councillor for Rota and Vice–president of the Consorcio
Mundo Vela Cadiz, presented the award to Theresa Zabell for her
dedication to the sport of sailing.
She is the only Spaniard to have two Olympic Golds (470 Class) and is
the patron of the Andalusian Olympic Foundation. Antonio Peña the Deputy
Mayor for Rota presented her with a gift from the city and named her
Official Patroness of the Municipal Nautical School. For his part
Montemayor Laynez, Councilor for Sport for Rota gave her life jackets
for her children.
The same morning Theresa Zabell was honoured with a plaque bearing her
name which is located on the wall outside the school.
During the event, co-ordinated by the Director of the World
Championships, Jose Ramon Domenech, the President of the Andalusian
Sailing Federation Angel Ruiz presented the Vice-president of the 470
Class with a commemorative plaque and a memento from Andalusian Sports
