PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL-(26-1-2004) The Soling Worlds’ training race was realized yesterday at Veleiros do Sul. The winner was a Hungarian crew Gyenese Balazs, Gyula Monus e Karoly Vezer. On the second the Argentineans Gustavo Warburg, Hernan Celedoni and Maximo Smith and on the third, Fernando Cavalli, Carlos Trein e Roger Lamb from Brazil.
They start at 4:30pm with 12 knots of south wind and at the end of the day it felt to 7 knots on the Guaíba Lake.
In sailing they use to say that ‘who wins a practice race won’t win the championship’ but not all competitors believe in that.
Some competitors abandoned the practice race saying that they need some time to adjust their boats.
The Soling Worlds opening ceremony was at 11h30am with the presence of Mr. Göran Petersson, vice president of ISAF.
The Soling Worlds will continue this Monday. The first race starts at 2pm. There are crews from Brazil, Argentina, United States, Hungary, Norway and Uruguay.
