CASTIGLIONE DELLA PESCAIA, ITALY-(11-4-2004) With a exciting regatta sailed in a 20 knots seabreeze from 280°, the 2004 Italian Soling Championship (Spring Trophy) ended yesterday. German Roman Koch / Maxl Koch / George Wossala took the Italian Open title for the third consecutive year without the need race this last day. Domenico Carducci / Genna / Ferraro, of the hosting club Club Velico Castiglione, won the italian title in an intense control over Tognozzi / Buglielli / Carotti who finished only a point behind them.
This regatta were a Soling season opener in Europe and also was the first one valid to the international Soling Ranking in the old continent that will continue with the Audi Cup in Hungary, also an open regatta to all sailors.
Argentinians continues to lead the ranking after their excellent performance at the Worlds held during the summer in Brazil.
Hungarian sailor George Wossala after winning the Italian Open creweing for Roman Koch is the best European Sailor ranked with only a 1.4 below The Argentinean team DISCO from Gustavo Warburg / Hernan Celedoni / Maximo Smith.
