New Crew Member Added to Every Yacht

Rolex Transatlantic Challenge 2005 - New Crew Member Added to Every Yacht
NEW YORK, N.Y.-(13-5-2005) Every yacht participating in the 2005 Rolex Transatlantic Challenge will be racing with a capability never dreamed of when the Great Ocean Race of 1905 was held – the ability to speak to an emergency physician from any point between the start and finish.

The event, hosted by the New York Yacht Club with the cooperation of the Royal Yacht Squadron, is providing each participating yacht with the ability to access the 24/7 MedLink services of MedAire, Inc. (ASX Code: MDE) in the event any crew member becomes ill or injured during the race.

MedLink operates as a hospital-based global-response center with communication specialists and board-certified emergency physicians working around the clock to provide medical guidance and assistance to people in remote environments.

`We are thrilled to be a part of such a historic event,` said MedAire CEO, Joan Sullivan Garrett. `While the New York Yacht Club is steeped in history and tradition, it is at the very forefront of medical capability by bringing MedLink services to every yacht – letting everyone focus on the race with the peace of mind of knowing they have the best medical help possible, if they should need it.`

`The participation of MedLink should add considerably to the safety and well-being of the fleet,` said A. Robert Towbin, event chair and a participant in the race. `It’s nice to know that expert medical help is just a ship-to-shore call or email away.`

The event starts in New York Harbor on May 21 and will race approximately 3,000 nm to a finish line near the shores of England two or three weeks later. About MedAire
Established in 1986, MedAire’s hospital-based MedLink center can be contacted from anywhere around the world using various forms of communications systems. The center, which can facilitate dialogue in more than 140 languages, also coordinates land-based medical resources to manage patient care. On average the center handles more than 70 remote medical emergencies a day.
