2000 World Champion wins Farr 40's at Joico regatta

Farr 40's at Joico regatta - 2000 World Champion wins Farr 40's at Joico regatta
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-(2-3-2003) Winner of the Farr 40 World Championships in 2000, John Calvert Jones (RPAYC) on Southern Star II won the Farr 40 division of the Joico regatta with Ray Roberts (RPAYC) on Emotional Hooligan in second and Steve Ellis (RPAYC) on Buon Giorno in third. Racing on day 2 was in a softening sou' east breeze which, had the promise to be a strong one early in the morning. At the start of race 3 it was 15 knots and dropped out to 6 knots by the end of the day's racing.

Steve Ellis on Buon Giorno slipped from the overnight lead to third with a fifth and fourth in today's racing. Southern Star II and Emotional Hooligan shared the two first places from today's races. All four of the races counted towards the final score.

As expected racing was tight in this one design fleet, with many teams sharing the top positions during the racing. 3 points only separated the top three places in the final point score. RPAYC representative boats took the top three places.

The 11 boats competing this weekend will be joined by 3 other Farr 40's this upcoming weekend to compete for the title of Australian National Champion being raced March 7-9 at RPAYC.
