| HYÈRES, FRANCE-(3-9-2003) The morning of the first day of racing for the Farr 40 European Championship started out with the row of country flags on the bulkhead snapping crisply in a 12-17 knot breeze. The row of 15 Farr 40s that were lined up behind them had great conditions all day on the Bay of Hyeres. Competitors reported that the breeze was up and down, a bit shifty and all around perfect racing.
The Italians took line honours for all three windward/leeward races. Vincenzo Onorato's Breeze got two bullets, and Alberto Signorini's Seven won the third race of the day. It was the German team of Wolfgang and Angela Schaefer that wound up at the top of the scoreboard though, with a consistent performance on their Struntje Light.
