Plenty of breeze and close racing

Rhodes Waterside Farr 40 Regatta  - Plenty of breeze and close racing
PITTWATER, AUSTRALIA-(12-11-2004) The forecasted front arrived early for the Farr 40 fleet racing in the Rhodes Waterside Regatta being hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Pittwater. The westerly breeze at the start of race four was 10 knots and by the time the fleet reached the top mark had gusted to over 25 knots and Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban retired.

The race committee continued the race with overnight leader Richard Perini leading the fleet as they flew around the top mark to head down wind in gusts over 20 knots. Marcus Blackmore’s Emotional Hooligan followed in close pursuit with Lang Walker’s Kokomo in third. After the fleet reached the bottom mark the breeze was recorded at 30 knots and a shift of 35 degrees to the south convinced the race committee to shorten the course at the top mark. Perini took the gun from Blackmore by one second and Walker third.

Matt Short’s Short Shipped sailed well with his wife and four daughters to pull back David Urry’s War Games on the last beat and finish sixth. Chris Meehan’s Belle Property pulled back two boats after the first beat to finish in fourth.

The fleet was instructed by the race committee to await further instructions inside the protection of Pittwater. The race committee waited to see what the conditions would do. After an hour long wait with a consistent breeze of 24 knots and gusts of 36, the race committee sent the fleet back to the club.

The final day of racing in the Rhodes Waterside F40 regatta will be off Pittwater on the Barrenjoey Circle tomorrow.
