SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-(23-10-2005) After three days of close racing at the Corinthian Doors Peppers Anchorage Farr 40 regatta, the next event on the Australian Farr 40 calendar, the Rhodes Waterside Farr 40 regatta, will be held October 28-30 at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Pittwater on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Joining the fleet will be a number of new and old faces with new Farr 40 owner in the Australian fleet Leon Christianakis at the helm of Cydon. Christianakis purchased Emotional Hooligan from Marcus Blackmore after dominating the Sydney 38 class over the last 12 months.
Christianakis previously owned and raced the Farr 40 Assegai in the United Kingdom. A number of his crew members from the Sydney 38 will be onboard the Farr 40 including brothers Bob and Jamie Wilmot. Also racing as part of the Cydon crew will be Leon’s wife Fiona, Bob Wilmot’s wife Susan, Pete Sheldrick, Mark Gorman, Laser champion Tom Slingsby and Carl Craaford all from the old Cydon crew that won the 2005 Sydney 38 Nationals in Geelong Victoria in January.
‘We are delighted to join the Australian Farr 40 fleet and lare ooking forward to the season. We intend to use the season as preparation to go to Newport Rhode Island for the 2006 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship,’ commented Christianakis.
Back to race with the fleet will be Ivan Wheen’s Sputnik with Rob Brown back as tactician. Winner of the first event of the season and sponsor of this event Lang Walker will be hoping to repeat his Port Stephens performance.
Following the Rhodes Waterside Farr 40 regatta the next event in the Farr 40 Australian season is the Savills SORC being hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club on November 26 and 27.
