Skiff Grand Prix World 2004 - The boys were out to have fun
RIVA DEL GARDA, ITALY-(2-7-2004) The wind ranged from a low of yesterday’s 15-20knts up-wards of 20-25 knts and it had it consequences. Those to fall victim included Spanish World Champions Fernadnex/Martinez, Ukrainians Leonewek/Luka to a spectacular nose dive all caught live and ugly with a on-board camera, and the Norwegians Bovim/Sundby to discretion.

What did come through was the depth of talent with the “rock stars” gone, some of the most spectacular footage and display of boat handling witnessed for a long time.

Those who should be singled out for special mention include; The Spanish team of Alberto Padroni/ Javier de la Plaza, the ever present Kenji Nakamura/Masato Takaki from Japan and the surprise package being the Brazilian’s Andre Fonseca/Rodrigo Dvarte.

At the end of today the Spanish team de la Plaza/ Padroni go into the final with a 1st place, 2nd is Japaness team of Nakamura/Takaki and 3rd, the Ukrainians Leonewek/Luka.

4th Brazil, 5th Norway, 6th local Italian team of Vacondio/Gabbi, 7th World #1 Spainish, 8th Portugal, 9th Denmark team of the Toft brothers and 10th the British team Coates/Muir.

Tomorrow is the final after which the top 3 go into the sail off with the first crew to score two 1st places wining the event. This is part of a trial that ISAF Events Committee has asked us to run, as a possible format change for 2008 games.
