A tough regatta!

Sailors report - Jenny Armstrong Belinda Stowell - A tough regatta! |
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-(3-5-2003) We sailed the last two races of the French Olympic Sailing Week yesterday
in what was a fairly tough regatta for us. We had great moments and amongst
them, some ordinary ones.
It was a pretty windy regatta with the first day serving up 20 to 35
knots. We have not sailed in extreme conditions for a while and it showed
as we capsized in both races. We were doing very well both times so at
least we know if we can stay upright we can be fighting for a win.
We climbed back up the score board steadily and moved into third place but
a day of light and shifty wind proved the toughest day of all for us. A
poor start and not quite enough observation did not help at all and we fall
5 spots on the leader board in one day. The last day was again shifty wind
and varying strengths but we sailed well and finished the regatta 5th. The
Greeks won, with the Israelis and Spanish 2nd and 3rd respectively.
We are now off for a few days of well earned rest before flying back to
Australia where we will be training in the two extreme conditions we get at
this time of year - either very light or windy enough to blow dogs off
their chains. Sydney in winter is often a good place for finding these two
wind conditions!
We will be coming back to Europe in mid June for our next Grade one event
on the circuit.
Until next time, fair winds,
Regards
Belinda and Jenny.
