SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-(5-12-2003) Japan on Monday, Singapore Tuesday, Sydney Wednesday and Brisbane on Friday
- that was last week so we are happy to say that this week we are staying
the whole time in Sydney!
We drove home yesterday after the Sail Brisbane regatta. We had a fleet of
12 470's making some fun racing. In each race the first mark rounding was a
busy and dynamic place to be with 5 boats fighting for 1st position. Quick
decisions and good technique was needed to get through in front.
We finished 1st in the Women's category and 6th overall, not quite managing
to get in front of the men often enough! We had 5 nations competing and 5
states represented which is great for the class.
The weather was typical for Queensland - beautiful one day, perfect the
next. We had 10 to 15 knots being the standard forecast giving us fantastic
racing conditions. This was heavenly given that on Monday we flew out from
Japan and had been sailing in cold rainy conditions with a maximum of 12
degrees!
In Japan we finished 4th in the Women's, with the top Japanese girls
sailing well to win it. Our starts were good with one of them too good and
we were disqualified for being over the line at the start - but we had a
great race! Pity it did not count for much! Some of the time we navigated
our way through the fleet and the wind shifts like a dolphin without sonar.
We had some great moments but did not put it all together to win.
Now we are back in Sydney for a few weeks and a couple of regattas. The
Mosman Cup is being held next week end and the Sydney International Regatta
from the 18th - 21st.
We hope to see some of you out on the Harbour,
Until next time,
Fair sailing,
Belinda and Jenny.
