RIVA DEL GARDA - PIEVE DI LEDRO (TN), -(10-9-2004) GBR One and GBR Two will sail the final, competing for first and second place. Italy, defeated by GBR One 3 to 0 fights for the third place against the team of the Czech Republic, defeated by GBR Two 3 to 1. Nothing to do for Italy, that today, in this European Team Championship class 420 here on the lake of Ledro, was defeated for 3 to 0 by the strong team of GBR One (Stuart the Hudson, Linda Eadie, Dom Johnson, Debs Kershaw, John Greenland and Bevis Field). Neither the crew winner of the Barcolana 2003 class 420, Stefano Cherin and Matteo Velicogna, had no say in order to fight the English crew during the matches that sentenced that the title is just an English business now.
In other semifinal GBR Two (Ben Field, Karen Greenland, Andrew Cornahm, Hamish Walker, Tom Hebbert and Suzie Short) at least gave the Czech Team One (Lukas Neumann, David Krizek, Jakub Kozelsky, Marketa Schwarzova, Radek Smetana and Jana Landkammerova) the illusion of being able to make it, but after the draw (1 to 1) GBR Two cruised to the victory in the two last matches of the day.
Tomorrow morning, the four teams will fight for the title, beginning at 11:00, in order to decide who will step onto the highest step of the podium. Great Britain will sure get the first two medals, to decide which team will get the gold one. The Italian crews, of that so prestigious club of Trieste that organizes the Barcolana, can sure aim to the third place, and it would also be good in anticipation of the great event above mentioned.
The Società Velica di Barcola and Grignano of Trieste, to remember, lines up the following competitors to represent Italy in this Championship: Matteo Velicogna, Alice Spangaro, Stefania Favaretto, Francesca Mocnick, Stefano Cherin and Simone Sandri.
