RIVA DEL GARDA - PIEVE DI LEDRO (TN), -(9-9-2004) Italy gains the semifinal against the English Team GBR Two. The other semifinal is between GBR One and Czech Republic One. Thanks to four victories out of six matches today, the Italian team class 420 of the Società Velica di Barcola - Grignano of Trieste (competitors: Matteo Velicogna, Alice Spangaro, Stefania Favaretto, Francesca Mocnick, Stefano Cherin and Simone Sandri) has now a place among the first four Teams that tomorrow afternoon will fight for a place onto the podium of this European Team Championship class 420.
Carrying out this event, on the waters of lake of Ledro, ideal scenery for the Match Racing formula, today the qualification Round Robin two was complete, and it designed the four Teams that will sail tomorrow the semifinal. First place (six victories out of six matches) for GBR One (crew: Stuart Hudson, Linda Eadie, Dom Johnson, Debs Kershaw, John Greenland and Bevis Field); second position for GBR Two (Ben Field, Karen Greenland, Andrew Cornahm, Hamish Walker, Tom Hebbert and Suzie Short); the third place is for Italy and the fourth sees Czech Republic One (Lukas Neumann, David Krizek, Jakub Kozelsky, Marketa Schwarzova, Radek Smetana and Jana Landkammerova).
Are out of the games, now, the German team (with two victories, against Ireland and Czech Republic Two), the second team of the Czech Republic (winner of only one match, against Ireland), and the team of Ireland, defeated by all other Teams competing here.
So glad the English delegation; and glad also the Italian one, that now, with the words of Stefano Cherin want to say: `the very idea of this event is positive, the location here on the lake of Ledro is also very good, and today, after a difficoult beginning in the first day, we got the satisfaction of being among the first four teams, for the podium. Tomorrow we’ll need some sailing tactics and the six competitors in crew will give their best (every Team sails with three boats). Our goal is a place among the first three positions.`
The finals will be sailed Saturday 11th, and after that there will be the prize-giving.
