SINGAPORE-(1-1-2003) The Asean Optimist Regatta 2002, which is held from the 29th of December until the 5th of January off the Singapore National Sailing Center, has started with 51 sailors from 7 Asean Countries.
After 3 races Alvin Yeow Jian Shing (M) (MAS) has taken a convincing lead by winning all three races. With his lead he also defends the Boys` Fleet as the 2nd and 3rd place are taken by the Girls Sarah Tan Wei Lin and Dawn Liu Xiaodan, both from Singapore (SIN).
After a New Years Eve Party, the 1st of January is spare day. Racing continues on the 2nd. and last races are scheduled for the 4th. The weather forecast unfortunately says that the event will see some rain and thunderstorms.
