| PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA-(1-4-2003) Tuesday dawned under overcast skies, with a light drizzle. Racing did not start at 10am as originally intended and, although the competitors launched around 9h30 for the sailing area, the first race of the day only started at 12h15. This was sailed in a light 7 knot Southerly breeze which better suited some of the lighter weight sailors compared to the heavier conditions experienced yesterday. The race was won by Thomas Fink of the USA, followed by Aaron Larkens and Brett Stirk, both of South Africa. The light conditions were clearly suiting Thomas Fink as he was equally successful in the second race of the day, with Brett Stirk finishing second and Rasha Ragab of Egypt in third place.
As the afternoon progressed the breeze began to stiffen to between 15 and 19 knots. The conditions were clearly suiting Brett Stirk and he finished first and fourth in the remaining two races of the day. The other first place went to Hamza Lboukili of Morroco. Local-boy Justin Onvlee finished second in both of these races with Race 1 winner Cam Cullman from the USA and Idriss Bouhadda from Algeria taking the third places in the two races.
With a number of protests still to be heard, the provisional results have Durban-based Aaron Larkens in the lead from East Londoner Brett Stirk. Cam Cullman of the USA is in third place.
Six of the top ten places are filled by South Africans with three from the USA and one from Algeria. Morgan Willson is the top girl, in 8th place. Previous overnight leader, Phillipa Baer had a wretched day and slipped down the standings to 13th position overall.
Expected weather for Wednesday is a continuing moderate to fresh breeze. Racing resumes at 10am.
