FD World Championship 2002 - Flying Dutchman Class is growing up |
TAVIRA, PORTUGAL-(29-8-2002) Alberto Barenghi is the Presidente of the Flying Dutchman Class. He is at Tavira at the World Championship. Alberto is very happy with all the organization of the Club Náutico de Tavira:...”Portugal is a very beautiful country and all the people is very hospitality. José Massapina, Paulo Paraíso and all the organization are working very hard so everything is okay. It is very important to promote the class in Portugal. I think that the class is very strong, the majorities of the boats are from Europe – Holland, Germany, Italy but there are all sailors from USA and Australia e New Zealand. We represent 50th countries. Sailing in a Flying is not only a choose but also a status symbol. We are able to increase our fleet high quality of the boat insures a long life and good second hand boat market. It is very important to transfer to the news generations of sailors the spirit of Flying. We are doing an effort to increase the number of female teams or mix which represents the reality in the class – the family. We have a very good team worker to promote the class on the web sidewww.sailfd.org. This year is very important for the class – 50th years of sailing. We’ll have a big party in Holland – Loodsdrecht with all the sailors of all world. It means naturally a new start point for the development and promotion of the class. During the last 10 years we had about 100 sailors at the world or Europe championship. Alberto sails in flying about ten years; it is a symbol of the family, now he is the President of the Class doing his best for more boats and good quality in the regattas.
