Mistral World Championship Underway

2002 Mistral World Championship - Mistral World Championship Underway
PATTAYA, THAILAND-(11-12-2002) Barbara Kendall comes back with a bang! Two years off since Sydney certainly has not dulled her competitive instincts. This all time legendary performer from New Zealand popped in a 1st and a 3rd to top the leader board after the first day's racing of the Mistral World Championship now being staged in Pattaya, Thailand.

Bryony Shaw (GBR) had an excellent first day with a 3rd and a 7th to take second spot overall with Alessandra Sensini (ITA) 3rd overall just two points behind.

More wind is forecast for tomorrow so the Race Committee have scheduled 3 races on what was to be the reserve day.

On Dec 8, There was no racing for King Power Mistral World Championships 2002 due to the lack of wind and some technical questions on the finish on the underside of the board raised by the team scrutinizing equipment prior to racing. These were soon answered after consultation with the factory and all formalities are now completed.

Entries include 109 men and 64 women from 29 nations and 5 continents. The lucky few will qualify their country for the 2004 Olympic Regatta in Athens. Lee Lai Shan (HKG) and Olympic Gold medallist in 1996, however has had to withdraw for medical reasons. She has returned home.

Day 2 of the 8-day program dawned grey and humid, and soon was pouring with rain. Thunder, lightening but No wind...glassy seas! It is, however, expected that the weather will be getting better and with wind forecast for the next 2 days.
