Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta 2002 - Exciting long distance race at day 4 of Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta
ARUBA, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES-(15-11-2002) After a day of rest yesterday. All the sailors were keen to sail the races of today. John Moret and Nico Harrewijn took the first place in the morning race. Followed by Richard Allen with crew James Hoad. The third place was for Mike Smith and Ian Wild in their Dart 18. The leading Tornado sailors Xander Pols and Mark Zwart had to abandon the race with boat damage.

Unfortunately Rob Klootwijk and Arie van de Plas didn’t sail today because Rob broke his leg celebrating their second place of Tuesday’s racing. Rob had surgery in the Hospital and seems okay. He is very disappointed that the races are over for him and Arie.

Especially because they were doing so well. This afternoon a long distance race was held. The catamarans went down the coast to the south end of the island along beautiful white beaches. The couple Ashley and Julia Machin from Britain took the first place with their Hurricane 5.9. Second Richard Allen and James Hoad came in just before John Moret and Nico Harrewijn.

Preliminary Results up until now are :
1. Xander Pols and Mark Zwart, 11 points
2. John Moret and Nico Harrewijn, 12 points
3. Richard Allen and James Hoad, 13 point
4. Ashley and Julia Machin, 15 points
5. Rob Klootwijk and Arie van de Plas, 15 points

Tomorrow will be another exciting racing day. Only one race will be sailed. And number 1 to have all have a change to win the overall price. The top five sailors are within 5 points from each other.
