Laser Asia Pacific Championships - Races postponed till sea breeze comes up |
DARWIN, NT, AUSTRALIA-(22-5-2003) The 1400 start was postponed as the easterly breeze gave way to the sea breeze. Race 9 was eventually started with only a short delay. Continuing on from yesterday, both starts saw some sailors over the start line early. Jan Kemp, leader in the Women's Radial broke her mast in Race 9, but a quick trip to shore, a change in mast and she was ready for Race 10, finishing third.
Race 10 saw some good racing with Leigh McNally from Queensland in the Full Rigs recording his best result so far, third. Well done Leigh. Local girl Claire Wharton record two wins today in the Women's Radial, including a third overall in Race 10 of the Radials. Congratulations Claire.
At the end of the day, Kevin Lim from Malay retains a 5 point lead in the Full Rigs. Hiromitsu Eiraku from Japan leads by 3 points in the Radials. Jan Kemp, despite the broken mast, retains a 1 point lead from Katherine Wade in the Women's Radial. The last day of the regatta looks to be set for some fierce competition.
