Laser European Championship - Bad weather predicitions for Laser European Finals |
SPLIT, CROATIA-(31-7-2003) The wind did not look promising when the competitors woke up, but soon the Mistral came with a 10 knots wind during the first start, building up to a nice 15 knots West South Westerly breeze during the second race.
After the Senior fleets had finished their three races, the Junior fleets sailed their last race in the dying Mistral. Fortunately they kept enough wind to end their races as well.
Now both Senior and Junior fleets are split into Gold and Silver and will compete during two final racing days. The weather is not looking very promising with a dropping barometer and cloudy skies at the end of today.
Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic from Croatia again had a very good day, sailing a 4th and 2 1st places. He is sailing this event very consistant, keeping his nerves under control. Training 7 days a week 4-5 hours a day in his home waters just outside beautiful Split he feels very comfortable. The worst result from today (4th place) was because he took the right hand side of the first beat, which normally pays, but not today. After the beat he had to fight hard to stay near a Greek and a Polish boat.
Ivan likes the courses laid by the Race Committee. He also thinks that you have to be in a good and strong shape to end three races a day, each lasting 80 minutes.
