SPLIT, CROATIA-(3-8-2003) Team GBR sailor Paul Goodison finished the Laser European
Championships in fifth place overall after a week of sailing in a variety of
conditions.
The week long championship attracted some of the best Laser sailors in the
world and despite leading for the majority of the championships, the final
two days provided tricky conditions which saw a seventeenth and a thirteenth
place finish for Goodison, knocking him out of medal contention and into
fifth place overall.
Vasilij Zbogar of Slovenia won the event by two points from local sailor
Mate Arapov of Croatia. Fellow team GBR sailor Dan Holman finished in
seventh place overall with the next best placed British sailor Ed Wright
finishing seventeenth, despite winning the final race of the championship.
The next event for Goodison is the Pre-Olympics, which take place from the
20-28 August in Athens, providing an opportunity to test the waters of
Athens a year before the Olympic Games.
